Hamilton Shocks Critics, Outpaces Leclerc After ‘Undriveable’ Ferrari Drama

·

Lewis Hamilton stunned the paddock with a P5 finish in Spanish Grand Prix qualifying after a dismal Friday where he labeled his Ferrari “not driveable.”

The 40-year-old seven-time world champion outqualified his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who could only manage seventh.

Hamilton will start Sunday’s race alongside teenage Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli on the third row.

It marks a sharp turnaround after Hamilton’s former teammate Nico Rosberg blamed age for his poor form in Friday practice.

The Briton’s last podium was in Las Vegas 10 races ago, and he is desperate to score his first with Ferrari.

Leclerc opted not to attempt a second Q3 run, saying he chose to conserve tyres for the race.

Hamilton has won at the Circuit de Catalunya six times and is tied with Michael Schumacher for the most victories at the track.
