The Philippines ranked 88th out of 109 countries in Coursera’s 2025 Global Skills Report, highlighting a major skills gap even as learners rush to upskill in cutting-edge tech.
GenAI enrollments in the country surged 383% year-over-year, far surpassing global and regional averages, reflecting the population’s growing interest in AI.
The country also saw a 53% jump in cybersecurity enrollments and increased engagement in software development and digital content skills.
Despite this momentum, Filipino learners only demonstrated 29% business, 21% tech, and 17% data science proficiency.
In the newly launched AI Maturity Index, the Philippines placed 60th, indicating potential for growth but a long road ahead.
AI usage is already high among Filipino knowledge workers at 86%, but only 37% of GenAI learners are women, despite women comprising over half of local Coursera users.
Demand for job-ready certifications climbed 23%, with learners favoring practical skills in IT infrastructure, marketing, and creative tech roles.
The median age of local Coursera learners is 32, and 2.7 million users make the Philippines one of Asia-Pacific’s most digitally active nations.
According to the IMF, 40% of Philippine jobs are at risk due to AI, underscoring the urgency of upskilling efforts and public-private collaboration.
