8 Risks Filipinos Face When Playing on Unregulated Online Gambling Sites

A new study from sociocultural research firm The Fourth Wall has revealed that many Filipinos playing on unregulated gambling platforms are unaware of the risks involved.
From financial losses to privacy issues, here are the biggest red flags uncovered:
1. Players don’t fully understand the rules
More than half of respondents (55%) admit they are unaware of the legal dangers, while 33% say they only know “a little.” Only 12% clearly understand the regulations.
2. Trust is a major concern
Skepticism outweighs confidence, with 39% doubting fairness compared to just 27% who feel secure about the platforms. Many remain undecided.
3. Habits lean toward high risk
Unregulated players gamble more heavily, with 41% playing two to three times a week and nearly a third betting four or more times weekly, often at PHP 100 to PHP 1,000 per game.
4. Financial losses push players out
About 41% of those who stopped playing on unregulated sites cite financial losses as the main reason, showing how unsustainable high-risk habits can be.
5. Most users are young to middle-aged
The study shows that the majority of players are aged 26 to 45, typically from lower-income brackets, treating gambling as casual entertainment.
6. Four distinct player profiles emerge
Gamblers fall into four groups: high-stakes losers (44%), perceived winners (28%), casual break-even players (17%), and regulated converts (11%).
7. Favorite platforms split between regulated and unregulated
Bingo Plus tops the regulated category with 32% of preference, while JiliBet leads unregulated platforms at 28%.
8. Safety nets are missing
Over 90% of users can register with little to no verification, 80% report no betting limits, and 65% say they never saw fairness certifications. These gaps expose players to scams, privacy risks, and underage participation.
