The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) hosted a roundtable discussion in Manila to address the rising burden of cardio-renal-metabolic (CRM) conditions in the Philippines.
Held in partnership with the German Embassy Manila and Boehringer Ingelheim Philippines, the event gathered healthcare professionals, patient advocates, academic experts, and industry leaders to push for an integrated, patient-centered approach to CRM care.
Participants underscored the need for unified healthcare systems to manage overlapping cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases that are often treated in isolation.
Medical groups called for the institutionalization of interdisciplinary training, shared care plans, and disease registries to streamline CRM management.
Patient advocates highlighted persistent gaps in access, stigma, and the emotional and financial toll that CRM conditions inflict on Filipino families.
The forum also spotlighted the pharmaceutical sector’s role in promoting early screening and awareness programs such as “It Starts with U: Get CheCKD” targeting chronic kidney disease.
Health officials reiterated the importance of culturally sensitive and universally accessible healthcare, including free medicines and consultations for non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension.
Key recommendations included improving early intervention efforts, integrating data systems, and expanding community-based health models.
Workplace wellness and public education were also identified as vital areas for public-private collaboration.
GPCCI emphasized that the discussion marked a crucial step toward long-term healthcare reform and pledged continued support to bridge stakeholders.
Germany’s envoy reaffirmed support for CRM initiatives and stressed the importance of sustained international cooperation in advancing holistic public health solutions.
