Public and private entities convene to host Global Money Week in PH

Global Money Week, a significant annual initiative promoting financial literacy and inclusion for both young people and adults, has returned this March with a renewed focus on empowering individuals to manage their finances responsibly and secure their future.

This year’s theme, “Protect your money, secure your future,” underscores the critical role of financial education in fostering financial empowerment and resilience.

The event, held on March 22nd, 2024, at Visa’s Pasay office in Manila, brought together a diverse group of participants including youths from Aflatoun programs, government officials, representatives from financial institutions, educational institutions, as well as key figures from the private sector and NGOs.

The full-day event featured engaging discussions on global, regional, and local financial literacy challenges and opportunities faced by young people. A panel discussion delved into innovative solutions to real-world financial challenges while showcasing best practices in financial education and youth inclusion.

Partners such as NATCCO, CDA, and Visa collaborated with Aflatoun International to highlight the significance of financial education for children and youth in the Philippines and worldwide. Through a global online platform and live streams, young participants from the Philippines connected with peers globally to exchange insights and initiatives with influencers and policymakers.

Visa’s involvement in the event aligns with its commitment to championing financial literacy and inclusion projects worldwide. Jeff Navarro, Country Manager of Visa Philippines, expressed pride in hosting the Global Money Week event at their Pasay office premises.

He emphasized Visa’s mission to facilitate secure financial transactions globally and underscored the importance of empowering youths to make informed financial decisions for a resilient digital economy.

The culmination of the GMW event in the Philippines saw participants committing to the Utrecht declaration—a pledge and roadmap for advancing social and financial education. This declaration serves as a testament to individuals’ and organizations’ dedication to promoting financial education and youth inclusion.

Roeland Monasch, CEO of Aflatoun International, highlighted the significance of the Global Money Week Pledge and Declaration of Commitment as a powerful tool for advocating financial education and youth empowerment.

By signing this declaration, stakeholders collectively reinforce the importance of equipping young people with essential financial knowledge for a brighter future.

In addition to the main event in Manila, Aflatoun International organized four hybrid events across Ivory Coast, Morocco, Philippines, and Albania. Thirteen live streams conducted in multiple languages aimed to engage a global audience in discussions surrounding Global Money Week 2024.

The events were streamed via an interactive platform designed to facilitate global participation and idea exchange. Participants were encouraged to follow the events schedule online through the provided link to engage with valuable insights shared during Global Money Week.
