A look into this billion dollar firm’s upcycling efforts
Epson Philippines and WWF-Philippines have launched “Project UPcycle” in Burgos, Siargao Island, focusing on plastic upcycling to promote a circular economy.
This initiative significantly supports A.T.E. Sewing Atelier, a social enterprise that empowers local women by providing them with sustainable livelihoods.
The project upgraded A.T.E.’s recycling facility and equipped it with new machinery, enhancing plastic upcycling efforts through workshops.
Women at A.T.E. are now transforming plastic waste into eco-friendly products, generating income while contributing to environmental sustainability.
Epson Philippines President Masako Kusama emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility through this project.
WWF-Philippines Project Manager Joeffrey Maglinte highlighted the initiative’s role in preventing plastic pollution in Siargao’s pristine waters while creating local job opportunities.
The project has turned A.T.E.’s facility into a Recycling Art Studio, facilitating community engagement in recycling efforts.
With the addition of sewing machines, A.T.E.’s production capacity has increased by 27%, boosting monthly income by 76%.
Training workshops on business management and financial literacy have further equipped A.T.E. employees with essential skills for success.
