Finland Tops World Happiness Rankings for Eighth Year in a Row

Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the eighth consecutive year, according to the UN’s World Happiness Report 2025.
Helsinki, the capital, embodies this happiness with a strong sense of community, trust in society, and easy access to nature — factors that outweigh wealth or health in predicting long-term well-being.
The 2025 report highlights the theme “Caring & Sharing,” emphasizing social support and community as crucial drivers of happiness in an increasingly divided world.
Helsinki reflects these values through traditions like neighborhood clean-up events, local festivals, and inclusive public spaces such as the Oodi Central Library, which saw 1.82 million visits in 2022.
The city’s infrastructure promotes connection and equality, with publicly funded neighborhood schools, mixed housing developments, and participatory budgeting initiatives like OmaStadi that let residents decide on local projects.
Helsinki offers extensive recreational options, including 34 public beaches, 13 ice rinks, and 1,300 km of cycling paths, encouraging an active lifestyle year-round.
With 76% of residents feeling safe in their neighborhoods and 71% reporting good health, Helsinki stands as a quiet, reliable model of happiness built into everyday life.
