China Escalates AI-Driven Disinformation Campaign Targeting Taiwan, Intel Says

Taiwan’s top intelligence agency reported Tuesday that China is increasingly deploying artificial intelligence to spread divisive online content aimed at destabilizing the island.
The National Security Bureau said over 510,000 controversial messages have been detected so far in 2025, up from more than 442,000 in the same period last year.
Beijing has focused its online efforts on topics including President Lai Ching-te’s security policies and Chinese military patrols near Taiwan.
The agency identified 3,600 suspicious accounts on platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.
Authorities say these operations are part of a broader campaign of cognitive warfare using AI, troll networks, state media, and proxy accounts to influence public opinion and exploit social divisions.
Taiwan continues to counter these tactics with an automated system designed to monitor and analyze online disinformation.
