Shein Caught Red-Handed: EU Slams Fast-Fashion Giant for Fake Discounts and Greenwashing

Shein faces potential EU fines after regulators flagged the platform for breaching consumer protection laws with misleading practices.
The European Commission said Monday the Chinese-founded retailer has one month to respond to violations including fake discounts, false purchase deadlines, and deceptive product labels.
Authorities in Belgium, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands launched the probe in February, exposing Shein’s use of pressure tactics and misinformation about return rights and refunds.
The EU also accused Shein of greenwashing, citing false claims about the environmental benefits of its products.
This crackdown follows a broader EU push against cheap imports, including a proposed €2 flat fee on low-value packages from platforms like Shein and Temu.
