From clueless to cloud pro: AWS communities change lives

Filipinos are racing to learn AI and cloud skills or risk getting left behind in the global tech boom. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is stepping in with a network of communities turning curiosity into careers and classrooms into real-world training grounds.
Over 250,000 businesses in the Philippines already use AI, with firm-level adoption jumping from 14% to 21% in just a year. Eighty-two percent of companies say AI will transform their industries within five years, yet more than half struggle with a lack of skilled workers. Only 26% of organizations believe their workforce is AI-ready, while 66% of companies in Southeast Asia now consider AI skills when hiring.
AWS Cloud Communities are tackling this gap head-on. With over 30,000 members nationwide, these communities include AWS User Groups, student-led AWS Cloud Clubs, BuildHers+ for women and LGBTQ+ learners, and specialized groups for startups and cybersecurity. They offer hands-on experiences like AWS Community Days, Innovation Cups, localized meetups in Cebu, Bacolod, and Davao, and leadership summits to nurture future tech leaders.
Stories from the community show the real impact. Uriel Alonso, once unsure about her tech path, joined an AWS Community Day and gradually built her skills, founded a university AWS Cloud Club, participated in AWS re/Start, and now mentors others through AWS BuildHers+. Others have shifted from non-tech jobs into cloud careers, started AWS-partner companies, or returned to the Philippines to work remotely for international firms.
Industries from IT-BPM and financial services to retail, telco, and energy are hungry for cloud and AI talent, creating opportunities for Filipinos to compete globally without leaving home. Programs like the Philippine Digital Workforce Competitiveness Act, DICT SPARK, and DepEd AGAP.AI complement these communities by expanding digital literacy from classrooms to workplaces.
For anyone thinking about career security, higher pay, or remote work options, joining a cloud community is no longer optional—it’s a way to keep up with a digital world moving at breakneck speed.
Filipino talent is proving that with mentorship, hands-on learning, and supportive communities, global tech doors can open without leaving local shores.
