Politician’s Euro Glam Sparks Outrage, Instagram Now Locked

Barangay Captain Jasmine “Daday” Chan of Basak, Lapu-Lapu City has set her Instagram account to private after photos from her European vacation went viral.
Her follower count plunged from more than 11,000 to just 905 as of this writing, signaling a swift retreat from public view.
The images, widely shared on Reddit, Facebook, and TikTok, showed Chan in designer outfits against landmarks like the Eiffel Tower.
Netizens quickly questioned whether the display of luxury was appropriate for a public official, fueling online debates on privilege and accountability.
Chan has clarified that the trip was a wedding gift and not financed by barangay funds.
Still, the controversy has reignited discussions on Republic Act 6713, the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasizes modesty and ethical behavior in both public and private life.
