Claimed EV system crash mid-journey fuels debate among drivers

An EV owner raised safety concerns after claiming their vehicle suddenly shut down while cruising at highway speed, sparking discussion among motorists online.
The driver said the incident happened while traveling at around 100 km/h on NLEX, when the car abruptly lost power. According to the post, the entire system shut down, including the screen, before rebooting and displaying a “power failure” warning. The vehicle reportedly could not accelerate at the time, forcing the driver to pull over.
After turning the car off and restarting it, the issue allegedly disappeared, with the system returning to normal and no error messages showing.
The vehicle involved was identified as a BYD Tang EV.
The post quickly drew attention from other drivers, with some sharing similar concerns about sudden system errors in modern electric vehicles, especially those heavily reliant on software systems.
In a later update, the owner said the issue was resolved after bringing the vehicle to a service center, where it was determined that a software update was needed.
The incident highlights ongoing conversations about reliability and software dependence in EVs, particularly as more drivers transition to fully electric vehicles.
