Manila pets steal the show in festive night of games and fashion

Pets Date Night, the annual signature event of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Philippines, returned for its fifth year to highlight the deepening bond between Filipino families and their pets while underscoring the importance of preventive pet healthcare.
Held in Manila in December, the event brought together pet owners and their companion animals for an evening that combined education, entertainment, and veterinary services.
Activities included expert-led talks on responsible pet ownership, free veterinary check-ups, interactive games, treats for pets, a pet fashion show, and live performances capped by a light show that drew strong participation from families.
Organizers said the celebration was designed to reflect the growing role of pets in Filipino households. Recent estimates show that Filipino families care for about 21.3 million dogs and 2.74 million cats, with nearly half of households owning at least one companion animal.
As pet ownership continues to rise, veterinarians stressed the need for year-round preventive care to protect animal health and reduce the risk of disease transmission within communities.
Boehringer Ingelheim representatives emphasized that vaccinations, routine veterinary visits, and comprehensive parasite protection remain among the most effective ways to keep pets healthy over the long term.
Free check-ups at the event allowed families to consult veterinarians directly and receive guidance on parasite prevention and overall pet wellness.
The program also promoted animal welfare through partnerships with Animal Kingdom Foundation and CARA Welfare Philippines. Both groups used the platform to raise awareness about humane sheltering, community education, and the adoption of rescued animals.
Crowd favorites included the return of “pawricature” sessions, where artists created personalized illustrations of pets, and the Holitails Pawchella fashion segment, which featured bohemian and Christmas-inspired outfits showcasing pets alongside their owners. Acrobatic acts and live performances added to the festive atmosphere.
Boehringer Ingelheim said Pets Date Night reflects its ongoing commitment to responsible pet care and community education. The company encouraged families to view preventive healthcare not as a one-time effort, but as a year-round responsibility that supports healthier pets and safer communities.
