Students at Pangantucan Community High School (PCHS) in Bukidnon are set to gain critical hands-on digital experience following a donation of 20 refurbished laptops from Caltex, marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI).
The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide for local youth whose academic progress has been hindered by a lack of access to technology.
The new hardware will support students across multiple academic disciplines. In mathematics and science, students will use the computers to construct spreadsheets and execute data analysis. In subjects such as social studies, literature, and religion, the devices will facilitate expanded access to online reading materials. Furthermore, the laptops will enable students to build creative skills through multimedia projects, including video production, graphic design, and slide presentations.
The faculty at PCHS will also utilize the devices to overcome local resource constraints. Teachers rely on internet access to obtain educational materials, instructional demonstrations, and research content required for lesson planning.
“We often see some of our students struggle with even basic computer tasks,” said Rev. Fr. Marlon T. Fabros, SJ, President of PCHS. “This tells us that the digital divide is not simply about owning a device. It is also about having enough opportunities to use one, make mistakes, practice, and gradually become confident.”
“We are very grateful to Caltex Philippines for this generous donation, as the laptops can help remove the digital barrier for our students and help them gain confidence as they enter the next chapter of their lives after graduation,” Fabros added.
The PCHS distribution is part of an ongoing series of laptop donations sponsored by Caltex for various educational institutions and community organizations, which has previously included support for the Jesuit Bukidnon Mission and Ateneo de Naga University.
