Canon’s flagship EOS R camera is now in development

Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. is set to revolutionize the photography world with the upcoming EOS R1, a cutting-edge full-frame mirrorless camera designed for professionals. Scheduled for a 2024 release, the EOS R1 will be the flagship model of the EOS R SYSTEM, boasting an RF mount for unparalleled performance and durability.

The EOS R1 is poised to dramatically improve the performance of both still images and video, meeting the high requirements of professionals on the frontlines of a wide range of fields including sports, news reporting, and video production.

This camera employs the newly developed image processor DIGIC Accelerator in addition to the pre-existing processor DIGIC X, enabling large volumes of data to be processed at high speeds and delivering never-before-seen advancements in Auto Focus (AF) and other functions.

Equipped with the innovative DIGIC Accelerator image processor alongside the powerful DIGIC X processor and a new CMOS sensor, the EOS R1 promises exceptional speed and precision in Auto Focus (AF) and other functions. By combining the new image processing system and deep learning technology to an advanced degree, Canon has achieved high-speed and high-accuracy subject recognition.

For example, subject tracking accuracy has been improved so that in team sporting events where multiple subjects intersect, the target subject can continually be tracked even if another player passes directly in front of them.

The camera’s “Action Priority” AF function recognizes subject movement by rapidly analyzing the status of the subject. In moments during a sports game when it is difficult to predict what will happen next, this function automatically determines the player performing a certain action, such as shooting a ball, as the main subject and instantly shifts the AF frame, thereby helping to capture decisive moments of gameplay.

This combination of the new image processing system and deep learning technology will help to improve image quality, with Canon implementing the image noise reduction function, previously developed and improved as part of the software for PCs, as a camera function to further enhance image quality and contribute to user creativity.

Canon’s commitment to excellence is evident in their rigorous field testing, aimed at supporting the capture of definitive and impactful moments at international sporting events to be held in the future. The EOS R1’s advanced image processing system not only elevates AF performance but also enhances image quality through noise reduction functions, previously exclusive to PC software. This means that photographers and videographers can expect to capture stunning images and videos with unparalleled precision and quality, even in low-light conditions.

The implications of the EOS R1’s advanced technology are far-reaching, with potential applications in various fields beyond sports and news reporting. For instance, in the realm of wildlife photography, the camera’s advanced AF system and image quality will enable photographers to capture intimate and detailed moments of animal behavior, providing new insights into the natural world. In the field of video production, the EOS R1’s capabilities will allow for the creation of cinematic-quality footage, elevating the art of storytelling and visual communication.

Canon will continue to expand the EOS R SYSTEM lineup with fascinating cameras and RF lenses, catering to diverse user needs and advancing the realms of photography and videography. The EOS R1 is a testament to Canon’s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction, and its release is highly anticipated by professionals and enthusiasts alike.

With the EOS R1, Canon is poised to redefine the boundaries of what is possible in the world of photography and video production, empowering creatives to push the limits of their craft and capture the world in unprecedented detail.
