Meralco Power Academy (MPA), the education arm of the energy giant led by tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, has inked a deal with Mindanao State University-General Santos (MSU-GenSan) to boost energy education and innovation.
The partnership aims to produce future-ready energy professionals through specialized training, learning events, and industry immersion, all wrapped in the shiny packaging of academic-industry synergy.

A memorandum of agreement was signed in Pasig City, making this alliance official and setting the stage for a flurry of buzzwords like renewable energy, nuclear science, and artificial intelligence.
The collaboration includes the Mindanao leg of the Young Engineers and Scientists Summit, as well as academic programs that hope to make students employable—assuming the job market cooperates.
This move echoes a similar alliance between MPA and MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, forming what’s apparently becoming an energy education franchise.
MPA’s grand ambition is to become a training ground for the country’s next batch of engineers and scientists who may one day solve energy crises with nothing but seminars and a certificate of participation.
MSU-GenSan’s role is to align its curriculum with industry needs, in hopes that fewer graduates end up wondering why no one hires people with “renewable” in their diploma.
Meralco sees this as a strategic investment in talent, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence and energy—a pairing that sounds futuristic but mostly means more PowerPoint slides.
