TCL is pushing the boundaries of home entertainment with its latest display innovation: Super-QD Mini LED (SQD-Mini LED).
Instead of relying on a single hardware upgrade, the company is combining advances in light control, color, and panel architecture to deliver a complete premium viewing experience designed for real-world living spaces.
The technology has already secured international industry recognition. The TCL X11L, the world’s first SQD-Mini LED flagship TV, won a Gold Award for Innovative Display Technology at the Global Top Brands (GTB) Awards during CES 2026, presented by International Data Group (IDG) with support from IDC.
TCL was also named the No. 1 Panel TV Brand in the Philippines for three consecutive years according to the 2025 Annual Cumulative Market Share Report by TRS Research.
“Today’s viewers don’t watch TV only in dark rooms. They stream sports in bright living spaces, spend hours gaming, and increasingly choose larger screens where brightness, color consistency, and motion clarity matter even more. A premium TV, therefore, can’t be great at just one thing. It needs to deliver a consistently strong viewing experience across different environments and content types. That’s what SQD-Mini LED is designed to do,” explains Maxi Chen, Senior Product Manager of Brownline, TCL Philippines.
To demonstrate the real-world performance of its backlight engineering, TCL Philippines hosted an exclusive media roundtable featuring side-by-side product demonstrations. Disassembled units exposed the backlight structures of TCL’s QLED, QD-Mini LED, and SQD-Mini LED models alongside a competitor’s Mini LED unit, highlighting differences in brightness, contrast, and color consistency.
“TCL wants to make the TV-buying experience easier by turning technical claims into something consumers can actually see. With interactive displays and side-by-side comparisons, shoppers can experience the difference in brightness, contrast, and color for themselves, rather than having to decode a long list of specifications,” shares Maxi Chen.
At the core of SQD-Mini LED is an integrated three-part display system:
- Precise Dimming: Integrates upgraded micro-lens structures, Micro-OD architecture, and intelligent backlight algorithms for finer light control, boosting highlight brightness while minimizing haloing around bright objects in dark scenes.
- Super QLED: Expands the color gamut, enhances color purity, and optimizes blue-light distribution to reproduce richer, more accurate shades.
- Ultra Color Filter: Utilizes color-filtering particles smaller than 5 nanometers to reduce color interference and preserve clean, distinct colors across large display surfaces.
In independent evaluations, market research firm Omdia awarded TCL’s SQD-Mini LED a perfect 10/10 score across brightness, color consistency, color gamut, and 4K motion clarity, noting that the panel preserved accurate colors even in small highlights.
While traditional display panel options like OLED remain popular, TCL designed its new technology specifically for everyday household lighting conditions and long-term display durability.
“While OLED remains a strong choice for dedicated, light-controlled home theaters, SQD-Mini LED is designed for the way most people actually live with their TVs. It combines deep contrast and minimal blooming with high brightness, vibrant colors, and the durability consumers expect from a display they plan to use for years. It’s about giving people premium picture quality without having to build their entire viewing environment around the TV,” says Maxi Chen.
