Adopt, Don’t Shop: Mars Philippines Promotes Responsible Pet Ownership

Mars, Incorporated has launched its inaugural Global Adoption Weekend in Manila, aiming to tackle the pressing issue of pet homelessness.

This initiative, held at the Shopwise Pet Fair in Ayala Malls Circuit Makati, is a collaboration with the Animal Kingdom Foundation and Shopwise.

The event is part of a larger global campaign spanning 12 countries, including the U.S., Mexico, Europe, and Asia.

Mars has introduced an innovative adoption portal, WeR4HappyTails, which streamlines the adoption process by emphasizing compatibility between pets and potential owners.

Since its introduction in the Philippines, this platform has successfully matched over 160 shelter pets with loving homes.

The Compatibility Quiz featured on the portal helps ensure that adopters find pets that align with their lifestyle and personality traits.

John Racoma, General Manager for Mars Pet Nutrition Philippines, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering a better world for pets through responsible ownership.

He noted that only 4% of Filipino pet owners currently adopt from shelters, underscoring the need for increased awareness.

The event also encourages social media engagement, with Mars pledging to donate pet food to shelters for posts tagged with specific hashtags.

As advocates push for revisions to the Animal Welfare Act, this initiative underscores a growing commitment to animal welfare in the Philippines and invites young professionals to participate in meaningful change.
