NFT called “Devil Dogs” dedicated for veterans

Military veteran and now tech CEO Dave Grannan re-imagines how we use non-fungible tokens.

Guided by the vision to utilize NFT technology and the excitement of the crypto-token investment space as a force for good, the new Devil Dogs NFT series is a crypto token project specifically crafted to support America’s service members.

The first-of-its-kind project aims to leverage Web3 technology to achieve both real-world and virtual benefits, with opportunity to purchase unique and tradeable “everyday hero” tokens. Proceeds will be directed to crucial veteran services.

In its initial release, Devil Dogs (DVL.DGS) is offering 1775 unique and inspiring bulldog tokens, commemorating service in the U.S. Marine Corps, with a mint date planned for this fall.

The DVL.DGS NFT initiative is headed by Dave Grannan, a Silicon Valley tech CEO & Gulf War veteran. “Our Devil Dogs NFT project sits at the intersection of two issues I care deeply about,” says Grannan. “As a Gulf War veteran, I know firsthand how our veteran healthcare system is falling short. And, as tech executive, I’m very bullish on the future of crypto, blockchain and most things Web3.”

As the project grows, DVL.DGS plans to donate over 90% of revenues to vital veteran’s charities. Specifically, the project aims to amplify the impact of organizations focusing on core veteran’s issues, including access to health care, suicide prevention and homelessness.  Devil Dogs also plans to support education and financial literacy programs that help veterans better re-integrate into civilian life.

The campaign’s current beneficiaries include the Marines’ Memorial Association & Foundation, The 38 Challenge, Irreverent Warriors and The San Diego Veterans Coalition.

The DVL.DGS campaign features two ways to give: investors can purchase an NFT to support wellness initiatives and/or donate an NFT directly to an active-duty service member. Grannan and his team are targeting this fall for a first official minting. But donation NFTs can be purchased right now at the project’s website, devildogs.io.

Grannan believes the project will speak to a lot of people who understand the challenges faced by veterans, as well as both crypto curious and seasoned investors ready for more purpose-driven NFT holdings. “If you’re crypto-curious, this project can be your safe on-ramp to the crypto world,” says Grannan. “And if you’re a crypto native, I ask, ‘Don’t you want a warrior in your collection who’s truly metaverse ready?’”

  • These are the biggest hurdles of automating IoT work in B2B industries

These are the biggest hurdles of automating IoT work in B2B industries

Viatick enables businesses to harness the power of their own data sets and simplify operations through data reliability.

The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interconnected computational devices and digital machines that can share data over a network without requiring a human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. We have witnessed a widespread introduction of such technologies across various industries over the last few years. Everything, from compact smart home devices like Amazon’s Alexa to Bosch’s large-scale smart irrigation systems, has helped increase the efficiency of particular tasks and made our work/lives simpler, overall.

The rate at which digital transformation continues to foster has increased year-on-year with the emergence of new technologies. But the initial attention was always on B2C markets; technology that makes our home lives easier. Gradually, more sophisticated IoT systems came into place that massively increased operational efficiency and turnaround times, while decreasing costs, in B2B markets like factories, waste management facilities, hospitals, etc.

But the introduction of new technologies is closely followed by the surfacing of bigger problems to solve. In the case of scaling IoT integrations in B2B, there lies the arduous task of seamlessly integrating and automating the technology being used in smart projects. To elaborate, there are three main challenges that businesses face when trying to automate their IoT workforce:

    • Lack of a universal interface – there are multiple enterprises working on various kinds of IoT devices across the world, and it’s possible that a particular business requires different products from different brands to upgrade their operations. Now, the problem arises when all these products have to work together but aren’t able to smoothly integrate with each other. This can result in an increase in machine downtime and cause unnecessary interruptions in the workflow, which is counterproductive to the entire concept of digitizing the workspace. This problem calls for a universal solution that promotes brand inclusivity and ease of work – much like the USB-C charging port in the B2C space. With a universal interface, businesses will be able to pick and choose the best products from different brands without having to worry about integration issues.
    • Increased resource expenditure – Without the availability of a universal interface, the expenses of managing and maintaining different machines can also increase. There are services available that help you integrate machines from different manufacturers but they tend to be temporary solutions and require constant observation to make sure everything is running smoothly. In this case, the business would have to employ someone to oversee the results of the data collected by the machine, defeating the purpose of no human-to-computer interaction.
    • Nothing is hardware agnostic – Currently, there are few-to-none computing components that can work with various systems without requiring particular adaptations. This means that entire industries are dependent on the production of specific machinery in order to function and grow steadily. As we saw during the COVID pandemic, the global supply chain was disrupted, resulting in a shortage of chips which brought the automobile industry, among others, to a standstill.

While the digital transformation of our workforce is cause for celebration, it is also an opportunity to further innovate and solve the next generation of problems that are sure to arise. We are all aware of how change is the only constant, but it is our responsibility to pave a polished path for that change to arrive in style.

With Viatick’s AI-backed algorithm JARVIS, companies are able to automate lengthy processes from check in check outs, time stamps of their workforce, and even time spent at work. All of these are made available for quick identification to help companies corroborate other payroll related details, without having to go through individual time stamp machines one by one.

  • EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Xendit Philippines Managing Director Yang Yang Zhang

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Xendit Philippines Managing Director Yang Yang Zhang

Before Xendit, Ms. Zhang headed PDAX as its Founder & Chief Product/Strategy Officer

    1. Xendit was able to raise $300 million alone from the series D funding, $62 million greater than the first three funding rounds combined. How does this translate vis-à-vis the confidence of your investors and market penetration?

Our latest funding round is a testament to how investors see the SEA market. Xendit sees a lot of growth opportunities not just in our existing core markets and this drives our expansion plans beyond Indonesia and the Philippines.

Specific to the Philippines, Xendit is fortunate to be operating in this space with a strong policy support by the government. We are in a good position to expand our business lines and drive inclusive growth.

    2. Can you share what were the major drivers that led to your company’s current position in terms of profitability?

Last year, Xendit grew its volume of payment transactions by 3x. Driven by the pandemic and the shift of business from traditional to digital, Xendit’s growth was driven by enterprises and SMEs. Xendit continues to launch first-to-market and world-class payment solutions together with our local partners in the Philippines.

Xendit’s portfolio of customers also diversified into other sectors, enabling growth overall despite slow down in some hard hit industries during the pandemic.

    3. Are there value-added services Xendit has in the pipeline? Can you describe how Direct Debit is doing in the Philippines?

Xendit goes beyond just payments processing and offers other business solutions such as fraud risk management too (xenshield), marketplace management (xenplatform) and data products. Specific to fueling the Philippine digital economy, Xendit also understands the importance of access to capital so we look forward to offering b2b loans to our merchant customers as well.

Direct debit continues to grow exponentially with a strong base of customers from ecommerce, financial services, subscription services and mobile wallet top ups. This product helps customers check out seamlessly with the convenience of one click payment flow.

From the merchant’s perspective, businesses are able to cater to more customers who don’t necessarily have credit cards by allowing buyers to use their bank accounts to pay online.

    4. What component of the digital economy are you planning to address next?

Xendit’s goal is to make sure that all the players in the ecosystem are given the opportunity to use technology to do their business and day to day operations efficiently. Xendit is working on co-creating solutions and applications to help customers transform the way they do their business.

    5. We know that Xendit is focused on regionalization over going public, can you share what the company has been doing in its expansion initiatives?

Xendit stays true to its mission to build infrastructure in the SEA market; and so we are eyeing Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand as potential new markets. We build what our customers want and in parallel, we head where our customers need us to go in SEA.

    6. Are we going to see more investments in local institutions like Bank Sahabat Sampoerna?

Xendit is always on the lookout for the next strategic investment; we started this with Dragonpay.

With our recent funding round, we doubled down on the PH by empowering local businesses not just with payments and value added services — but also by putting our capital directly into other Philippines startups in fintech and other verticals.

  • MSME trailblazers share learnings to budding entrepreneurs

MSME trailblazers share learnings to budding entrepreneurs

The summit followed a series of online talks hosted by Canva Philippines.

Canva Philippines capped off the Negosyantrends: MSME Summit 2022 with a get-together at its Makati headquarters featuring successful entrepreneurs Marvin Agustin, president and owner of Secret Kitchen, Reese Fernandez-Ruiz, president and founding partner of Rags2Riches, Nian Ellao, CEO and founder of Vyous Digital, and Andrea Sumida, CEO and founder of Kohi Social. Canva’s design experts also treated the participants to a free brand consultation to help them with their branding needs.

Prior to the onsite gathering, Canva Philippines also held a series of online talks on designing for e-commerce, social media advertising, leveling up your online sales strategy, and creating and scaling your business through video content with speakers from the Department of Trade and Industry, TikTok Shop, Lazada, and WhenInManila.com.

Agustin, who is known for his food ventures SumoSam, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, John and Yoko, Tai Koo Hong Kong Roast, Kondwi, and Secret Kitchen among others, admitted that he loves to challenge himself. For him, it is an opportunity to learn something new and find out what works best for his business.

Like many other entrepreneurs whose businesses were challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, Agustin found himself embracing technology more. He began to use and trust it more and used it to his business’ advantages by engaging with his customers online and embracing food delivery apps as their new partner.

For Ellao who provides digital consultancy services to mostly brick and mortar businesses, the challenge wasn’t so much on adapting to technology but on encouraging her clients to also understand it and transition to it.

Having been operating an online store for more than a decade, Fernandez-Ruiz shared that while they didn’t have to adjust their online operations as much, it was coordinating their logistics that became a challenge during the pandemic.

She stressed the role that technology played to sustain their production and manage collaboration and communication. “Be the kind of leader and business person who will coordinate and orchestrate this kasi kung hindi, tools lang ‘yan, hindi sya magiging useful if you don’t use them,”  she said.

Powerful branding is also an important tool for businesses. Branding is more than just a business’ logo, it’s also the promise that brands deliver to their customers.

In her virtual session, Clo Palamos, art director at Canva Philippines, highlighted the importance of branding especially for new businesses which may be competing with many other brands for their customers’ attention. The key is to treat your brand as a person and make that person relatable to others, according to her.

Some branding tools that businesses can have are their logo, brand colors, fonts and typography, and images among others. With tools like Canva, businesses can create their own style guide and streamline their branding through Brand Kit, a feature that allows businesses to build a brand from scratch or add their existing brand assets so everyone in their team can stay on brand.

In her video message, Janice Villanueva, CEO and founder of MommyMundo, encouraged the participants to always go back to the people they serve. “We ask ourselves, as a brand, how do we stay useful as a community and how do we keep exciting them? Always, always go back to the market you serve. Beyond serving their needs and wants, how can you delight them?” she said. Recognizing the many players available in the market now, Villanueva also emphasized the importance of being creative and thinking out of the box.

Participated by over 5,000 business owners, the Negosyantrends: MSME Summit 2022 is Canva Philippines’ first-ever business summit of this scale and is part of the company’s 8th anniversary celebration in the country. The event was held in partnership with CNN Philippines, The Philippine Star, WhenInManila.com, adobo Magazine, Spot.ph, and Esquire Philippines.

SM Cares supported the team during their Manila preparations last July 4-8, 2022 by treating the athletes with accommodations at Heritage Hotel Manila and a “Fun Day at the Mall” tour at SM Mall of Asia, SM Southmall and S’Maison. In partnership with MOA Food Hall, SM Cinema, SM by the BAY Storyland, and SM Southmall Game Park, the team enjoyed full board meals and a number of activities like movie screenings, theme park rides, indoor sports and tours.
