EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Tencent Games Philippines Senior Marketing Manager Patricia Ysabelle Griño
Ms. Griño answers some questions on the recent Phoenix Adarna campaign for PUBG.
1. Is this the first time that PUBG Mobile took inspiration from mythological creatures?
PUBG MOBILE as a globally known mobile game, has long been collaborating with different industries from film, entertainment, anime, music, and more to create new content and forge unique gaming experience across its different markets.
This might not be the first time PUBG MOBILE has taken inspiration from mythological creatures, but Phoenix Adarna is indeed the first ever Filipino-inspired character set in the game.
2. Did a Filipino team pick “Ibong Adarna” for the new set?
Yes, since the Tencent Games Philippine team began quarter 3 of 2021, it has been the local team’s goal to create character content that will take the game closer to the Filipino gamer’s heart.
3. How long did it take to develop Phoenix Adarna?
8 months. The PUBG MOBILE Philippine team worked very closely with our game developers to capture the magical and colorful aesthetic of Ibong Adarna, but at the same time creating the game’s unique take to the character.
In PUBG MOBILE, Phoenix Adarna’s design is not quit the same as what we know in the classics, but rather stylized as a tech cyborg with vibrant metal plating gear, almost like a superhero suit with its wing feathers as its cape.
4. Can you expand on Cebu Pacific’s role in the collaboration?
Cebu Pacific as the official carrier as we support PUBG MOBILE on the launch of Phoenix Adarna, the first-ever Filipino character set within the game.
Cebu Pacific and PUBG MOBILE will bridge the world of gaming and travel as we help amplify the new PUBG MOBILE character set to promote Philippine tourism and elevate Filipino pride.
5. Are you going to tap local esports team to promote your new and upcoming content?
Yes, definitely. Aside from our usual partnerships with gaming-specific KOLs and influencers, we always have local esports teams as top-of-mind when it comes to promoting new content especially those that may have an impact or of utmost interest to them as professional players of our game title.
