Aramco Boosts Gas Reserves at Jafurah Field in Saudi Arabia

Aramco, a prominent global energy and chemicals company, has significantly increased the proven gas and condensate reserves at the Jafurah unconventional field in Saudi Arabia. The company has now confirmed 15 trillion standard cubic feet (scf) of raw gas and two billion stock tank barrels (STB) of condensate as proven reserves at Jafurah. Moreover, Aramco estimates that Jafurah holds a total resource of 229 trillion scf of raw gas and approximately 75 billion STB of condensate.
These new reserve estimates were calculated using an innovative approach to shale reserves booking, a first in the industry for unconventional resources. The methodology focused on establishing resource continuity and performance consistency. The accuracy of these estimates was validated by DeGolyer and MacNaughton, a reputable industry reserves certification consultancy.
Amin H. Nasser, Aramco’s President & CEO, emphasized the significance of this achievement in enhancing Saudi Arabia’s hydrocarbon wealth through proven gas reserves. Aramco’s deployment of cutting-edge technologies like advanced modeling and artificial intelligence is driving progress in developing Jafurah, a key growth engine for the company and a vital economic resource for the Kingdom.
Efforts are underway to commence production at Jafurah, with plans to achieve a sustainable sales gas rate of two billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd) by 2030. Additionally, substantial volumes of ethane, Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), and condensate are expected to be produced.
This development underscores Aramco’s commitment to advancing its gas production capabilities through technological innovation and strategic resource management, positioning the company as a key player in meeting energy demands sustainably and efficiently.
