GHD Global Leaders to Convene in Addressing Urbanization Challenges

Over 100 leaders from the renowned global professional services company GHD are gathering in Manila from March 14-16 to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues in water, energy, and urbanization.
This significant event coincides with GHD’s career expo at its Makati office, reflecting the company’s commitment to expanding its workforce in the Philippines, which currently stands at 1000 employees.
Lorraine Gomez, GHD’s Operations Manager in the Philippines, highlighted the importance of the Technical Conference as a pivotal annual event where delegates from various regions worldwide come together to explore cutting-edge solutions and foster collaboration.
She emphasized the Philippines’ strategic significance as a valuable market with exceptional technical talent, making it an ideal choice for hosting the conference.
One notable example of GHD’s global collaboration is the joint effort between local civil and structural teams in the Philippines and colleagues in Australia and the Americas to design a unique liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Batangas, supporting the country’s shift towards renewable energy.
With a longstanding presence of over 25 years in the Philippines, GHD operates across offices in Makati, Cebu, and Quezon City, aiming for further growth. In conjunction with the conference, GHD will conduct a career expo at its Makati office to fill around 70 positions in energy, mining, environment, marine, and advisory teams.
Looking ahead to 2050, Gomez highlighted the Philippines’ projected population growth from 118 million to 148 million and emphasized the country’s potential to produce skilled graduates capable of meeting future job demands.
Despite being ASEAN’s fastest-growing economy, the Philippines faces challenges in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with less than 20% of indicators on track according to the Philippines Statistics Authority.
The conference theme “Shaping water, energy & communities” underscores the urgency to accelerate SDG progress locally and globally by leveraging insights from local employees and clients alongside sustainable infrastructure expertise from across the world.
GHD’s gathering of global leaders in Manila signifies a concerted effort to address critical issues and drive sustainable development initiatives that will benefit not only the Philippines but also contribute to global progress in water management, energy sustainability, and community development.
