Revelations from HID Global’s security industry report

HID, a renowned global leader in trusted identity solutions, has recently unveiled its highly anticipated 2024 State of the Security Industry Report.
This comprehensive report is the result of gathering insights from a diverse pool of 2,600 participants, including partners, end users, security professionals, and IT personnel from various industries worldwide. The survey encompassed a wide spectrum of job titles and organization sizes, representing over 11 different industries.
The 2024 State of Security Report delves deep into the core concerns driving upcoming innovations in the security industry and the technologies that form the foundation for these advancements.
By shedding light on these critical aspects, the report aims to empower security leaders to proactively adapt to the evolving challenges in the security landscape. Conducted in the fall of 2023, this year’s survey has unveiled six prominent themes that are set to shape the future of security:
- Mobile Identity on the Rise: With the pervasive use of mobile devices, the momentum around mobile identity is steadily gaining traction. Surveyed end users predict that nearly 80% of organizations will deploy mobile IDs within the next five years. Industry partners are even more optimistic, foreseeing a staggering 94% adoption rate among their customers.
- Embracing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Despite the gradual adoption of Zero Trust security measures, MFA has become widespread, with over 83% of end users currently utilizing it. This trend is primarily driven by the vulnerabilities associated with traditional passwords. The transition towards Zero Trust, which emphasizes strict access controls and continuous verification, is underway, with 16% of large organizations and 14% of smaller ones already implementing it.
- Sustainability as a Business Imperative: The importance of sustainability in business decisions is on the rise, with both end users and partners ranking it high on their priority list. A significant majority of respondents acknowledge the growing significance of sustainability, paving the way for solutions that focus on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and resource optimization.
- Biometrics Continues to Thrive: Biometric technologies such as fingerprint, palm print, and facial recognition are witnessing impressive momentum, with a substantial percentage of installers and integrators reporting their usage. The survey indicates a growing interest in biometrics, with a notable percentage planning to test or implement biometric solutions in the near future.
- Cloud-Based Identity Management: A significant shift towards cloud-based identity management is evident, with nearly half of end users transitioning to cloud solutions. While some challenges exist, such as reliance on legacy systems and budget constraints, the trend towards cloud-based identity management is gaining momentum.
- AI Revolutionizing Analytics: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as a game-changer in the security landscape, particularly in enhancing identity management through advanced analytics. Many security professionals view AI as a powerful tool to drive immediate outcomes and operationalize security systems effectively. A considerable percentage of end users are exploring AI capabilities, with plans to implement AI-enabled solutions in the coming years.
The insights unveiled in HID’s 2024 State of the Security Industry Report offer a glimpse into the evolving trends and technologies that are set to redefine the security landscape.
