St. Luke’s Sets National Benchmark in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Care

St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City has surpassed 300 Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedures, reinforcing its position as a leader in minimally invasive heart care.
The milestone reflects more than a decade of program development since the hospital introduced TAVR in 2012, led by interventional cardiologist Dr. Fabio Enrique Posas, who performed the country’s first percutaneous procedure.
TAVR targets severe aortic stenosis, enabling valve replacement through a catheter instead of open-heart surgery, reducing recovery times and expanding treatment to high-risk and elderly patients.
The hospital recently launched the Center for Structural Heart and Vascular Interventions (CSHVI), a dedicated facility for non-surgical management of complex cardiovascular conditions, incorporating advanced imaging, catheterization, and patient care systems.
Under Dr. Posas, the center coordinates a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and imaging specialists, ensuring seamless patient care from diagnosis to post-procedure follow-up.
CSHVI aims to expand beyond TAVR, introducing additional minimally invasive techniques while maintaining outcomes comparable to top international institutions.
St. Luke’s CEO Dr. Dennis P. Serrano emphasized the milestone as evidence of the hospital’s commitment to patient-centered care and clinical innovation.
The achievement positions St. Luke’s competitively in the Philippine cardiac services market, reducing the need for patients to seek advanced procedures abroad and strengthening its profile among high-risk patient populations.
Hospital leadership expects continued investment in structural heart programs to drive clinical expertise, technology adoption, and operational efficiency across cardiovascular care services.
