Sora’s hype fades as downloads drop 45% in January

Remember when everyone was turning themselves into AI movie stars? That wave may already be crashing.

OpenAI’s video generation app Sora, powered by its Sora 2 model, exploded out of the gate in October. The iOS version topped 100,000 installs on day one despite being invite only. It quickly hit No. 1 on the U.S. App Store and reached 1 million downloads faster than ChatGPT.

Now the momentum is slipping.
