Filipina founder who spotted a gap just won one of the world’s top comms awards

Ever wondered how brands like Airbnb or Toyota actually get you to trust them? Behind that influence are people shaping the stories you see, and one Filipina just proved she’s among the best in the world at it.
Ana Ruby Pista has been named Strategic Communication Leader of the Year by the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence, taking home the honor in Brussels on April 16 as part of the inaugural Strategic Global Awards.
She is the first Filipino to ever win the title, which recognizes measurable, evidence-based impact that actually changes how organizations and the public think.
Her story starts with a simple but risky move. In 1997, while tech was booming, she noticed no Philippine agency was focused on tech companies. So she built ArdentComm from scratch.
Nearly three decades later, that bet paid off. ArdentComm now employs more than 50 professionals and has handled campaigns for global giants like Airbnb, Toyota, Disney, Chevron, and Alibaba Cloud.
But the award was not just about business growth. Judges pointed to her wider influence. Pista became the first Filipino elected director of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, representing more than 360,000 practitioners worldwide. She also leads the Public Relations Society of the Philippines as president for 2026 to 2027, founded an AI Centre of Excellence, and has spoken at the World PR Forum.
The recognition highlights over 25 years of sustained leadership through shifting tech and economic cycles.
For anyone building a career or business, the takeaway is blunt. The biggest wins do not come from following trends. They come from spotting what everyone else missed and sticking with it long enough to change the game.
