5 Ugliest Cars Ever Built — What Were They Thinking?

Not every car can be a beauty — some miss the mark so spectacularly that they become legends for all the wrong reasons. Let’s take a look at five of the ugliest cars ever built, where style took a wrong turn.
1. Pontiac Aztek (2001-2005)

The Aztek is often the first name that comes to mind when people think “ugly car.” With its awkward, bulky shape and strange two-part grille, it looked more like a failed sci-fi prop than an SUV. Despite its practical interior and cult status (thanks to Breaking Bad), its design remains unforgettable — and unforgivable.
2. Fiat Multipla (1998-2010)

The Multipla redefined “weird” with its bulbous top, bug-eyed headlights, and a front end that looked like two different cars smushed together. It was surprisingly spacious inside, but from the outside, it seemed like Fiat lost a design bet. It’s earned a place in automotive history as one of the most bizarre-looking family cars ever.
3. Nissan Juke (2010-2019)
The Juke tried to blend sporty and quirky — and ended up with a face only a designer could love. Its split-level headlights and frog-like front made it stand out (for the wrong reasons), though some appreciated its boldness. Thankfully, Nissan toned things down in later models.
4. SsangYong Rodius (2004-2013)
SsangYong wanted the Rodius to look like a luxury yacht on wheels — instead, it looked more like a garage project gone wrong. Its mishmash of angles, an awkwardly stretched rear, and a confused front end made it a visual disaster. Despite its roomy interior, the Rodius was widely mocked for its unfortunate styling.
5. AMC Pacer (1975-1980)

The Pacer’s wide-body, bubble-like windows, and odd proportions earned it the nickname “the fishbowl.” It was a bold attempt at futuristic styling — but instead, it became a punchline. Despite its pop-culture appeal (thanks to Wayne’s World), it remains one of the most head-scratching designs of all time.
Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder, but these cars pushed the limits of what the public could tolerate. Do you agree with the list, or is there an even uglier car that deserves a spot? Let’s hear it!
