Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei is scheduled to dine with President Donald Trump at the White House tonight, marking the first direct one-on-one meeting between the executive and the president as federal scrutiny over artificial intelligence sharpens.
The dinner, initially reported by Axios, brings together two key figures who have recently staked out conflicting positions on artificial intelligence safety and oversight.
Amodei has advocated for a more cautious approach to artificial intelligence development, proposing plans to deliberately slow the pace of deployment to ensure security. In contrast, President Trump has disputed criticisms of rapid AI deployment, characterizing the safety backlash as a Democratic hoax and calling for the technology to be rebranded as “super intelligence.”
The meeting comes after a period of direct tension between the San Francisco-based AI firm and federal authorities. Earlier this year, the Department of Defense designated Anthropic a supply-chain risk after the company sought to enforce specific guardrails on how its technology is deployed. Anthropic is currently challenging that designation in court, even as other administration officials have maintained a more collaborative relationship with the startup.
The White House dinner tops off a high-profile weekend for the AI executive, who was also featured in a parody segment during the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.
