Alibaba Group has made waves by earning a coveted spot on Fortune’s 10th annual Change the World List.

The recognition comes for its groundbreaking AI tool, designed to detect pancreatic cancer lesions, developed by DAMO Academy.

Ranked eighth among 52 global companies, Alibaba is the only Chinese firm in the top ten.

Fortune editors curated this prestigious list from a competitive pool of 250 nominees, highlighting its significance.

Matt Heimer, Fortune’s Executive Features Editor, noted that these companies exemplify how capitalism can address critical social issues while remaining profitable.

Alibaba’s innovative tool, known as PANDA, accelerates the diagnosis of cancerous lesions, making it both faster and more cost-effective.

Le Lu, head of DAMO’s medical AI team, stated their mission is to leverage AI for comprehensive cancer treatment, ensuring precision and accessibility.

PANDA boasts a 34.1% increase in sensitivity over traditional radiologists in identifying abnormalities in CT scans.

Currently deployed in two hospitals in Zhejiang province, PANDA aims to transform early cancer detection.

Looking forward, DAMO Academy is partnering with the WHO to advance digital health innovations globally.
