Paella, sarciado, caldo and mango float just got a fiber upgrade. After more than three decades in Filipino homes, Quaker brought its oat expertise to the breakfast table with the Quaker Fit Breakfast Club 2026, a hands-on media cook-along held today at The Studio Kitchen at Enderun Coworking Estancia.
Themed “Quaker Salu-Salo,” the event invited Philippine media to recreate beloved breakfast and holiday favorites with oats at the center, demonstrating how adding oats to familiar dishes can help boost fiber intake, support healthier eating habits, and make nutritious meals more enjoyable for the whole family. A serving of oats already provides 3.5g fiber.
Closing the Fiber Gap, One Bowl at a Time
The event builds on the inaugural Quaker Fit Breakfast Club and puts the spotlight on a nutrient most households don’t track. According to a study of Filipino working adults published in the Philippine Journal of Nutrition, the Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes set a daily fiber target of 20–25g, yet the average Filipino gets only 6–8g. While many families already think about getting enough protein at breakfast, fiber is often forgotten.
Oats offer a simple solution by providing both protein and fiber in one breakfast meal, helping Filipinos move closer to their daily fiber needs while enjoying the foods they love. Oats also contain beta-glucan, a soluble fiber that helps one feel full longer and manage weight, as well as support digestion and heart health.
“In Filipino homes, breakfast has always been more than a meal. It’s the moment the family gathers before the day pulls everyone in different directions,” said Macy Monson, Marketing Lead, PepsiCo Inc. Philippines. “Our commitment is to make good nutrition something every family can reach for every day, not a special effort. And as the holidays come around, we want families to know they can celebrate with the dishes they love, without the guilt, and with a little more goodness in every bowl.”
Filipino Favorites, Rebuilt on Oats
Nutritionist Jo Sebastian opened the program by unpacking fiber as “the nutrient nobody counts,” before Chef Nat Sundiang led a masterclass on oat-based Filipino comfort food. Guests watched Chicken and Mushroom Oats Caldo come together in minutes, with quick oats delivering a creamy porridge in less time. The chef then presented an Oat-Infused Breakfast Paella as the festive centerpiece: a vibrant pan of chicken, chorizo, bell peppers, boiled eggs and sweet peas on a savory turmeric-and-pimentón oat base in place of traditional sticky rice.
For dessert, an Oat Mango Float showed how milky oats can stand in for cream while keeping the creaminess, layered with graham crackers and mangoes in a cold, no-bake treat. Media then took to their own stations to cook Oats Sarciado, a high-protein take on the classic Filipino breakfast pairing of eggs, tomatoes and fish, made with fluffy oats and egg and topped with tomato sauce and fried fish.
“Closing the fiber gap doesn’t mean overhauling how you eat. It starts with small swaps, like a bowl of oats in the morning or a handful stirred into the dishes you already cook,” said Jo Sebastian, registered nutritionist-dietitian and content creator. “When fiber shows up in familiar food, it becomes a habit instead of a chore.”
“Oats are one of the most forgiving ingredients in the kitchen. They take on broth, pimentón, tomato sauce, even mango, whatever you give them,” said Chef Nat Sundiang, recipe developer, food stylist, and Head Chef of Turo Filipino Kitchen. “The goal was never to hide the oats. It was to let them carry the flavors Filipinos already love, with a modern spin that still tastes like home.”
After closing remarks from Aditya Ahuja, General Manager, PH/MY Asia Foods, PepsiCo Inc., guests gathered at a long communal table for a family-style salu-salo, sharing the dishes of the morning, a fitting close for a brand that sees the Filipino breakfast table as a place to eat well together.
This season, Quaker encourages families to bring the salu-salo spirit home by giving their favorite Filipino recipes an oat-based twist. Share your creations using #QuakerSaluSalo.
