foodpanda Philippines is allocating approximately ₱20 million to fund a seasonal rider support and safety package running from June through August, targeting hazardous road conditions brought on by the peak rainy season.

The initiative combines operational safeguards—including automated service suspensions during severe weather—with financial top-ups for riders who choose to work during mild to moderate rain.

Under the platform’s protocols, operations are dynamically monitored against regional weather advisories and local road conditions, automatically restricting or pausing delivery zones when severe weather or flooding creates unsafe driving conditions.

“Our partner riders are essential to keeping local communities going, and their health and safety will always come before any delivery,” said Kyrinne Kate Viaje, Country Fleet Health Head of foodpanda Logistics Philippines.

“Our priority during severe weather is to equip riders with the right information and complete autonomy to decide when it is safe to be on the road. When operations are active during mild to moderate rain, we want to ensure those who choose to log on are fairly compensated for the extra time and care required.”

To cushion the impact of adverse weather on earnings and road conditions, the seasonal program introduces several targeted measures for delivery partners:

  • Enhanced trip top-ups: Riders earn an extra ₱10 to ₱15 per order during active operations in mild to moderate rain, compensating for slower traffic speeds, required detours, and added road friction.
  • Advance weather alerts: In-app notifications inform riders of forecasted rainfall ahead of time, allowing them to adjust their work schedules without penalty.
  • Workplace autonomy: Delivery partners maintain full discretion over when to log on or off based on their personal safety assessment.
  • Year-round safety education: The seasonal push complements ongoing nationwide training programs covering defensive driving, emergency preparedness, and safe navigation in bad weather.

Because severe weather naturally leads to extended transit times, foodpanda is advising customers to expect delays, keep their contact details updated for smooth communication, and show patience to couriers.

The platform noted that customers who wish to support their drivers can use the in-app tipping feature during checkout, with 100% of tips going directly to the rider.

foodpanda Philippines currently operates across 192 cities and municipalities nationwide. The company is a subsidiary of global delivery company Delivery Hero.
