Globe bolstered mobile connectivity and provided funding for student projects during Silliman University’s Hibalag Festival 2026, backing one of Dumaguete City’s largest annual campus gatherings.
To handle the surge in network traffic as alumni, students, and visitors gathered for the celebration, Globe deployed a Cellsite on Wheels (COW) directly at the Hibalag festival grounds. The temporary installation supplemented Globe’s existing infrastructure in Dumaguete City, where more than 40 cell sites currently deliver coverage to approximately 92% of the local population. The expanded capacity and active 5G network allowed attendees to stay connected and share real-time festival updates.
“Hibalag is an important tradition for the Silliman community. We are glad to support this tradition through reliable connectivity and programs that help young people lead and contribute to their communities,” said Jun Juada, Business Area Head for Western Visayas at Globe.
Alongside technical support, Globe collaborated with Silliman students through its Win The Youth (WTY) Program. The initiative supplied leadership training and project grants designed to help campus leaders execute their ideas, offering students opportunities to develop practical skills, collaborate with peers, and participate actively in university affairs.
Globe also maintained a physical presence on the festival grounds with interactive booths and targeted promotions:
- Localized Data Offers: Students and local customers accessed Go5G Turbo 50, a tailored data promo designed for the Dumaguete area.
- App Rewards: Attendees redeemed a single Rewards point via the GlobeOne app for free ice cream at the Globe booth.
Hibalag—a Visayan word meaning “meeting” or “coming together”—is a cornerstone of Silliman Founders Day. The event unites generations of Sillimanians through organization booths, cultural activities, and homecoming events, reinforcing the historical ties between the university and Dumaguete City.
