A growing army of low-budget online trolls is exploiting Facebook’s #satire tag to peddle lies while pretending it’s just “humor.” These fake news peddlers target politicians, journalists, and celebrities, spreading outrage and false narratives for clicks, ad revenue, and influence.

By hiding behind the guise of satire, their posts slip past moderation, allowing doctored videos, fabricated quotes, and memes to reach massive audiences unchecked. Local fact-checkers, including Vera Files and Rappler, warn that this “weaponized humor” is a deliberate tactic to mislead and manipulate.

“Calling it satire doesn’t make it harmless; it makes it profitable deception,” one analyst said. Users are urged to question content before sharing, while platforms face mounting pressure to crack down on mislabeling and disinformation networks.

The rise of these broke trolls turning lies into viral cash signals a dangerous evolution in online propaganda.
