Philippines Becomes Fraud Disneyland as AI-Generated Fake IDs Run Wild, Sumsub Reports

Synthetic identity document fraud in the Philippines exploded by a staggering 291% in Q1 2025, making it the second-highest in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Sumsub.

The country now ranks fourth globally for synthetic ID attacks, while overall fraud rates surged 69% compared to Q1 2024, just behind China’s 107% rise.

AI-powered synthetic IDs have become the favorite weapon of scammers, replacing old-school tricks like document forgery and biometric spoofing, which fell by 7% and 68% respectively.

Traditional finance fraud jumped 78% year-on-year, adding more headaches to Philippine banks that are chasing double-digit growth in assets, loans, deposits, and net income.

Sumsub plans to showcase its fraud-fighting arsenal at the “Comply to Fortify 2025” roadshow on June 18, 2025, alongside Nexus Technologies, as businesses scramble to stay ahead of increasingly creative criminals.
