Inspira underscores importance of strong cybersecurity measures

In recent years, the Philippines has faced a staggering increase in cybersecurity threats.

Organizations in both the public and private sectors must remain vigilant and proactive as these threats continue to evolve due to the dynamics of the digital environment.

This message was recently shared by Dr. Thelma Villamorel, Director of DICT Critical Infrastructure Assessment and Cybersecurity Standards Monitoring (CIECSM).

During a recent event organized by Inspira Enterprise, Dr. Villamorel highlighted that there were around 3,000 instances of “high-level cyberattacks” recorded between 2020 and 2022.

Additionally, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported that approximately 54,000 cyber threats were closely monitored during the same time frame.

These figures underscore the pressing need for strong cybersecurity measures.

Dr. Villamorel emphasized that these statistics reveal the alarming rise in cybersecurity threats faced by businesses in the Philippines.

To safeguard the digital landscape and protect critical assets from potential cyber threats, she stressed the importance of proactively enhancing our defenses.

IDC Research Director Cathy Huang could not agree more. She underscored the significance of cybersecurity preparedness for businesses, citing results from IDC’s CEO survey report released in February 2023.

The report highlighted Cyber Threats and Regulations as the top risks impacting businesses, urging organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity posture.

“Cybersecurity risks are among the key challenges affecting businesses today,” said Cathy Huang.

“IDC’s survey data highlights the urgency for organizations to adopt proactive cybersecurity strategies and solutions to effectively safeguard their digital assets against escalating threats.”
