Gatchalian Pushes for Alternative Pathways for Professionals to Become Licensed Teachers

Senator Win Gatchalian is exploring alternative routes for professionals to become licensed teachers to strengthen senior high school education.
During a hearing on Senate Bill No. 2840, Gatchalian proposed amending the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 to allow licensure through an exam or a portfolio demonstrating professional teaching standards.
He emphasized the need for specialized teachers, especially for tech-voc subjects, citing challenges faced by a Valenzuela technical college seeking instructors for graphic design and computer courses.
Gatchalian stressed the importance of aligning education policies with the evolving workforce demands to better equip senior high school students.
