Former Appier Associate Director of Sales Minnie Fung has officially launched her own startup, Sidekick Meow (問問喵), an application designed to help individuals navigate critical life decisions by merging classical Chinese metaphysics with modern psychology.
The launch follows an 11-year career in app marketing and tech startups that included roles at Meituan and foodpanda. Reflecting on her professional background, Fung noted: “Over those years at a startup, Meituan, foodpanda and more, I learned how products grow, how users behave, and how hard it is to build something people truly need.”
Sidekick Meow officially celebrated its launch on November 7 in Hong Kong. The platform was conceived during a personal low point in Fung’s life, when she found that existing guidance was often overly fatalistic or laced with judgment. Instead, she sought a balanced approach offering a clear assessment of a situation paired with non-judgmental support.
Rather than functioning as a standard AI chatbot or a random horoscope feed, the app utilizes advanced artificial intelligence to cross-check three traditional Chinese systems:
- BaZi
- Qi Men Dun Jia
- Tie Ban Shen Shu
The platform then translates these traditional readings into actionable guidance that users can readily understand and apply. “Metaphysics shows the way. Psychology gives you strength. What you want is a decision you can act on, not a vague statement about your life,” company materials state.
While acknowledging that introducing a metaphysics-based app often draws skepticism, Fung emphasizes that the tool is designed to foster self-reliance rather than strict fatalism. “I’m not asking anyone to believe in fate. I’m building a tool that helps you trust yourself with the next step,” she explained.
Ultimately, Sidekick Meow aims to eliminate guesswork at life’s turning points by fusing the precision of traditional metaphysical algorithms with the empathy of modern psychology. As the company outlines: “We don’t just predict the future – we empower you to navigate it with confidence, clarity, and a compassionate sidekick by your side.”
