How Singlife Philippines and 90POE plan to bring insurance to 500,000 seafarers

·

Filipino seafarers and their families will gain streamlined access to essential financial insurance following a strategic agreement between digital insurer Singlife Philippines and maritime technology platform 90POE (Ninety Percent of Everything).

The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at delivering financial safety nets to the nation’s half a million maritime workers, whose demanding jobs frequently separate them from their dependents for extended periods.

By combining Singlife‘s digital protection products with 90POE’s maritime technology infrastructure, the collaboration targets the specific financial security challenges faced by workers in the global shipping and cruise industries.

Key details of the partnership include:

  • Target Population: Direct outreach to the approximately 500,000 Filipino seafarers supporting global trade operations.
  • Core Objective: Removing traditional barriers to insurance, giving maritime workers simplified access to coverage while at sea or on shore.
  • Integrated Support: Combining digital insurance products with specialized maritime software to improve overall well-being and long-term peace of mind for seafaring families.

“Filipino seafarers are the backbone of global trade, but the nature of their work is inherently challenging and takes them away from their loved ones for long periods,” said Allen Reyes, CEO of Singlife Philippines. “Our goal is to remove barriers to insurance. Working with 90POE, we want to make it easier for these modern-day heroes to access protection that is as hardworking as they are, ensuring that they and their families are cared for no matter what.”

The initiative addresses an ongoing vulnerability for maritime personnel, who operate in high-risk environments while serving as the primary financial providers for households back home.

“We count on seafarers to keep global trade and the cruise industry moving every single day. We often forget that behind every voyage is a family counting on them for its financial security and well-being,” said Abs Kapur, Chief Executive Officer of 90POE. “Through our partnership with Singlife Philippines, we’re bringing our technology platforms together to deliver greater financial security and peace of mind to the half a million Filipino seafarers who help keep our world moving”.
