Kaspersky’s Digital Footprint Intelligence (DFI) team has unveiled a troubling report at GITEX Global 2024.

The findings reveal almost 10 million stolen account records circulating on the dark web in the first half of 2024.

Ransomware groups have become increasingly sophisticated, with 19 active gangs targeting the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Notable groups include Lockbit 3.0, Stormous, Rhysida, and Qilin, which primarily attack public sector and construction industries.

Hacktivism is also surging, as ideologically driven attacks evolve from denial-of-service to dangerous data leaks.

Kaspersky identified over 11 hacktivist movements in the region, reflecting current geopolitical tensions.

Initial access brokers are facilitating cybercriminals by offering entry points into corporate networks; over 40 dark web advertisements were discovered.

Info stealers are rampant, designed to extract sensitive data from infected devices, complicating cybersecurity efforts.

Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Egypt are experiencing the highest number of data breaches, according to Kaspersky’s analysis.

Vera Kholopova, a senior analyst at Kaspersky, stressed the importance of vigilance against these evolving threats.

Organizations must adopt proactive measures to safeguard their digital landscapes effectively.
