Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) and Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd. (Tokyu Hotels & Resorts) have recently announced the successful completion of the training program for the first group of 18 technical intern trainees and chefs hired through MOL’s recruitment agency in the Philippines.
These professionals have now taken up their posts at Tokyu Hotels & Resorts across Japan, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between the two companies.
The collaboration between MOL and Tokyu Hotels & Resorts began in December 2022 when they formed a consulting business alliance to recruit global human resources.
This alliance has been instrumental in the recruitment and training of workers from overseas, addressing the labor shortages in the service industry, particularly in the lodging and restaurant sector.
The shortage of labor has become a pressing concern due to the recovery of economic activity following the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid resumption of international tourism, and the increase in domestic travel.
Securing capable personnel has become increasingly important for the service industry, and the business alliance between MOL and Tokyu Hotels & Resorts aims to address this issue by leveraging each other’s strengths and connecting workers and companies across borders.
In a recent event to recruit chefs, Tokyu Hotels & Resorts President Murai and Chief Executive Chef Toshinori Sogabe held a company briefing session and hands-on cooking seminar at MOL’s partner Magsaysay’s training institute in Manila. This event attracted more than 100 people, leading to an increase in the number of applicants and candidates coming to Japan.
The two companies are committed to expanding the recruitment of foreign staff and aim to increase the percentage of foreign employees to 10% of the total number of employees in the future.
This goal is in response to the sharp increase in foreign visitors to Japan, and the alliance aims to contribute to the sustainable development of local communities by addressing labor shortages in the service industry both in Japan and overseas.
MOL has a long history of recruiting and training foreign seafarers, and its partnership with Tokyu Hotels & Resorts, which operates a wide range of hotel businesses in Japan and overseas, allows them to combine their expertise and resources to address labor shortages in the service industry and contribute to the sustainable development of local communities.
