“Kupal,” Potato Corner draws backlash for controversial site decisions

Reddit users have raised concerns about Potato Corner, claiming the snack chain favors company-owned outlets over franchise proposals.
A discussion in the franchise subreddit started when a user asked why a friend’s proposed franchise location had been ignored for months, only for Potato Corner to open its own store in the same area.
Other commenters shared similar experiences, saying successful franchisees were denied renewal agreements while the company launched stalls in the same locations.
One user said a submitted location was rejected, then later occupied by a company-owned outlet, sparking frustration among other Redditors.
The thread drew strong reactions from fans of the brand, with many expressing disappointment over what they described as unfair franchise practices.
Potato Corner responded on Wednesday, defending its site selection process and stating that the incidents cited in the Reddit posts do not reflect its policies.
“Recently, concerns have been raised about how our franchise locations are selected. We hear you. Thank you for bringing this to our attention,” the company said in a statement.
It emphasized that such incidents do not align with its values, standards, or policies, adding that franchisees are partners in its growth.
The statement also said Potato Corner had reached out privately to individuals raising concerns and is conducting an internal review to verify the claims.
“Our team has immediately reached out privately to the individuals who raised the issue to have a better understanding of their concerns, verify the details, and act on the claims,” the company said.
Potato Corner said it has not yet received responses from those contacted but remains open to engagement.
The chain sought to reassure its wider franchise network, saying preventive controls are in place to ensure appropriate site selection.
It reaffirmed its commitment to fair, respectful, and responsible practices that aim for win-win outcomes across the franchise community.
The Reddit thread and subsequent company response highlight ongoing tensions between franchisors and potential franchisees in the fast-food sector.
