Alex Eala is coming home.

Filipino tennis superstar Alex Eala will face Indonesia’s Janice Tjen in her homecoming match on December 8 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

In a video message, Eala announced that she will take on Tjen in an exhibition match entitled “Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate,” organized by Tatler Sports at the country’s biggest arena, which has a capacity of more than 50,000.

“Get ready for an unforgettable day of world-class tennis and the celebration of national pride, designed to inspire the next generation of Filipino tennis players,” Eala said.

“I can’t wait to share this moment with you and celebrate our culture together,” she added.

Eala is currently ranked No. 18 in the WTA rankings, the highest-ranked player from Southeast Asia.

Eala and Tjen previously teamed up in the doubles event of the Abu Dhabi Open, where they reached the semifinals.

Eala advanced to the third round of the US Open after beating Mary Stoiana, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round and Oleksandra Oliynykova, 6-1, 6-4, in the second round.

Eala will next face her close friend Iva Jovic tomorrow (Sunday), 7 a.m. (Manila Time).
