Lenovo, Meralco co-sign philanthropic initiative

Lenovo Philippines launched its latest collaboration with One Meralco Foundation (OMF) with the goal of offering smarter technology for everybody. The contract signing event, which took place on September 20, marks the start of yet another significant relationship.

Lenovo has agreed to give laptops to OMF’s School Electrification Program as part of this collaborative effort. The program seeks to electrify 10 schools across the Philippines by 2023, with three schools in Sarangani and three in Sultan Kudarat already benefiting from it. Plans to electrify two schools in South Cotabato and two more in Southern Palawan are also in the works.

Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines, said, “Our company has always been driven to provide smarter technology for all. However, we understand that without power, the potential of technology remains untapped. By providing laptops to electrified schools, we light the way for students and educators to access a world of knowledge.”

This is not the first collaboration between Lenovo Philippines and the One Meralco Foundation. The partnership began last year when the former, inspired by the School Electrification Program’s mission, reached out to the latter.

According to Ngan, the initiative resonated with their global mission of empowering underrepresented populations with access to technology and STEM education. As a result, teachers from schools in Iloilo received additional laptops from the largest global PC maker.

One Meralco Foundation’s President, Jeff Tarayao, expressed his gratitude for Lenovo’s support, saying, “Being able to reach the most distant island schools in the country gives an even deeper meaning to our work in One Meralco Foundation. We are happy that our partners like Lenovo, join us in these areas and contribute to the meaningful change that help improve communities,” OMF President and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao said.

To enable the productivity of our teachers and students, and their immediate communities by providing energy access to many underserved communities in the country is a great part of Meralco’s advocacy, according to Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho.

“Through our electrification initiatives, Meralco and OMF hope to continue changing more lives for the better and contributing to sustainable and inclusive development of communities beyond our franchise area,” Aperocho concluded.
