MANILA, Philippines — Manulife Philippines has named financial sector veteran Edgar Tordesillas as its new General Counsel, effective July 1, 2026. Tordesillas, who returns to the firm after 15 years, will join the company’s executive committee to oversee legal risk, regulatory strategy, and corporate governance.
In his new role, Tordesillas will advise senior leadership on operational matters and evaluate legal risks associated with corporate initiatives. His primary objective is to align executive business decisions with the firm’s legal frameworks and established risk tolerances.
Tordesillas carries more than 25 years of legal and compliance management experience within the Philippine asset management and life insurance industries. This appointment marks his second tenure at Manulife Philippines, where he previously operated as Vice President of Legal and Compliance from 2007 to 2011.
Prior to rejoining the company, Tordesillas spent 14 years as General Counsel for another multinational life insurance provider. His responsibilities there included steering corporate governance, managing litigation and contract negotiations, and directing compliance operations.

Tordesillas will directly influence the life insurer’s operational execution and risk appetite by embedding structural compliance measures into everyday business decisions.
