Managed service providers will soon have direct access to OpenAI’s frontier models within the core cybersecurity architecture they already operate, following a new channel-focused partnership between Sophos and OpenAI.
The collaboration integrates OpenAI’s advanced models directly into Sophos Fusion, an open, AI-native defense system that links endpoint, network, email, cloud, identity, and security operations. Rather than forcing IT partners to piece together standalone tools, the integration delivers frontier AI natively within a connected environment that continually aggregates threat intelligence.
In addition to enhancing threat detection, Sophos is rolling out defenses to manage organizational AI adoption. The company’s Sophos AI Defense platform—entering early access in August 2026—provides visibility into AI and shadow AI usage, enforces governance policies, and controls how sensitive data moves across external models. Through the OpenAI relationship, Sophos plans to broaden these protections across active AI workloads and data streams.
The initiative builds on existing work under the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, which focuses on developing governed workflows to accelerate threat identification, validation, and remediation. The updated agreement specifically targets the channel, leveraging Sophos’ network of more than 25,000 partners, including over 7,000 managed service providers (MSPs).
“Frontier AI only protects organizations at scale when you have the architecture to operationalize it and the reach to deliver it,” said John Peterson, chief technology officer, Sophos. “Sophos Fusion will give OpenAI models a defense system to work inside: connected control points, shared context, and human accountability. Our channel gives them reach through a global network of more than 25,000 partners, including over 7,000 MSPs. For those partners, it opens a new class of AI security services to build a business on. That is how frontier AI reaches the organizations that need it most.”
Key takeaways for channel partners include:
- Unified architecture: OpenAI capabilities integrate directly into the existing Sophos Fusion framework without requiring manual configuration.
- Expanded service potential: MSPs can build new recurring managed security services around enhanced detection, investigation, and response.
- AI governance: Integrated tools help organizations identify shadow AI usage and protect proprietary data across third-party models.
For channel providers, the collaboration addresses growing client demand for secure AI adoption while opening fresh revenue opportunities.
“Many of our clients are adopting AI at rapid speed, and they’re asking us how to stay secure while they do it,” said Alex Ryals, CISO & SVP at MicroAge, a Sophos partner based in Phoenix, AZ, USA. “Seeing a leader in security and a leader in AI commit to working together on exactly that challenge means we can offer a strong answer for our clients, and new services to grow on.”
Sophos stated it will disclose additional details regarding product features and partner availability in the coming months.
