Emergency response teams in Sarangani province have received portable power stations and solar panel units to keep critical communications and relief operations running following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake and Typhoon Inday.

The local government units (LGUs) of Malapatan and Glan accepted the clean energy equipment at the Malapatan Incident Command Post. The initiative was coordinated through the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), the nation’s primary private-sector disaster management network, in partnership with technology provider Jackery Philippines.

Disaster-stricken areas frequently face sudden power outages as traditional electrical grids collapse. In emergency situations, loss of power hinders rescue coordination, disconnects field teams, and delays medical triage. While gas generators have historically filled power gaps, plug-and-play solar units remove fuel dependencies and transport hurdles during crises.

The donated units are deployed immediately across several frontline operational areas:

• Emergency operations centers coordinating LGU response teams
• Makeshift medical stations treating injured residents
• Vital community charging hubs providing power to affected citizens

“Having power is very important for our rescue team so we can stay connected, especially during emergencies, so we are very thankful to Jackery and PDRF for this big donation. This will really help our team serve the people of Malapatan, Sarangani better,” shared Mark Christopher Quiño, Incident Commander, LGU of Malapatan, Sarangani.

Officials present during the deployment included key members of the local Incident Management Teams: Incident Commander Mark Christopher Quiño, Liaison Officer Jowil Ceasar Berdos, Planning Section Chief Jay Oliver Eda, Operations Section Chief Rene Cutamora, and MDRRMO Glan Operations and Warning Section Chief Christopher Caballero.

The partnership highlights an expanding role for renewable energy tools in Philippine humanitarian operations, offering LGUs reliable backup power that reduces vulnerability to prolonged grid outages during disaster recovery.
